Stories of Hope & Healing
Anonymous: My four stages of living with anxiety...
“My four stages of living with anxiety" written by an anonymous friend in support of Mental Health Awareness week
🌻 Living with anxiety isn’t just a "mood" - it’s a full body experience. In the beginning, it often shows up as a constant, whirring stress that refuses to switch off. It manifests in physical tolls you might not expect: the tight chest, the digestive issues, the tension headaches, and exhaustion. It feels like your body is stuck in a permanent "fight or flight" mode, reacting to invisible threats until your physical health starts to pay the price.
🌸 The turning point begins with acceptance. For a long time, you might try to fight it, hide it, or wish it away. Accepting that you have anxiety isn't a defeat; it’s actually the first step toward regaining control. It’s the moment you stop blaming yourself for a biological response and start looking for the tools to manage it.
🌿 Healing, however, isn't a straight line - it’s a messy series of emotional ups and downs. Some days you feel like you’ve conquered the world, and the next, you’re back feeling hopelessly defeated. It’s important to remember that deep healing takes time - sometimes years. In this phase, patience is your best friend. You have to give yourself the same grace you’d give a loved one, understanding that setbacks aren't failures; they’re just part of the long road to recovery.
🌼 Eventually, you reach a stage of flourishing. You aren't just "going back to normal" - you are evolving into a stronger, more self-aware version of yourself. This is the beautiful part where you begin to rediscover and rebuild. You start picking up the hobbies, the people, and the dreams that anxiety once made feel impossible.
🌷 You’re not the same person you were before the stress started, but in many ways, this new, resilient version of you is much more equipped to find true happiness.
How Reiki Can Support Anxiety, Stress and Emotional Wellbeing
Life can be demanding, and many of us experience periods of stress, anxiety or emotional overwhelm. When this happens, it can affect our sleep, energy levels, mood and overall sense of wellbeing.
Reiki is a gentle, holistic therapy that promotes relaxation and supports the body's natural ability to restore balance. During a Reiki session, many people experience a sense of calm and deep relaxation, providing an opportunity to step away from the pressures of everyday life.
Clients often describe feeling calmer, more grounded and better able to cope with life's challenges after a treatment. Reiki can also encourage greater self-awareness, helping us reconnect with ourselves during times when we may feel disconnected or overwhelmed.
Whilst Reiki is not a replacement for medical care, it can be a valuable complementary therapy, supporting emotional wellbeing and creating space for rest, reflection and healing.
Sometimes, the most important thing we can do is simply slow down and give ourselves permission to receive support.
